“As my Abba has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love… This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” [John 15:9,12]
What defines home for you? Is it a location or a feeling? According to the website www.theidiom.com, “Home is the place where you have a foundation of love, warmth, and happy memories. It might not always be the building itself but being near your loved ones.” That is, “Home is where the heart is.” I sense that is why Jesus said to his disciples, “Abide in love.” “Home” is wherever love abides. It is not so much a place as a condition of our soul. To abide in love means we are willing to continually immerse ourselves in soul-widening adventures whether we have traveled around the globe or to a local store. God’s love is not static, rather it permeates the world around us. God’s love knows no bounds and can be experienced in places we never imagined. Where has God’s love surprised you? Was it during a grocery store encounter with a neighbor or as you traveled to a village on the other side of the globe? Let us learn evermore deeply how to abide in God’s love, so home can be found wherever we travel.
Prayer
Abba God, your love has been generously poured into my life. Yet, I confess that love is not always so easy for me. I find reasons to withhold love or at least parcel it out sparingly. Free my heart to love others as you have loved me, I pray. Amen.
