“Thomas said to Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to Thomas, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” [John 14:5-6a].
Do you know the way? Our culture is filled with so many options to choose from that we can easily lose our way. Do I follow this path or that one. The pressures to succeed or fit in often cause us to choose a path that is not in our best interest, although we often cannot see that in the moment. In our confusion and worry, hear Jesus’ words anew, “Do not let your hearts be troubled…” for I am the way. The way of Jesus is the truest way for us to be fully human, for Jesus was fully divine and fully human. The way of Jesus is also the way to life in all its fullness. To live the way grounds our being in love and grace. Do you know this way of walking through life? It’s an invitational way to walk through life inviting everyone to come and see, to come and experience firsthand the deep love God has for you. As God says through the prophet Isaiah, “You are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you.” Jesus said to Thomas, “I am the way.” May we have the courage to live our days as Jesus did, filled with love, compassion, and mercy.
Prayer
Holy One, I give you thanks for loving me. For never giving up on me and all my detours in life. Give me the courage to invite others on this adventure with you as the way. Amen.
