“I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.” [Psalm 89:1-2; NRSV]
When is the last time you broke out in song praising God? Was it when you witnessed a spectacular sunrise or sunset? Was it when you were surrounded by generations of family with the littlest one being just a delight? Was it in deep communion with others in a faith community? Was it in a hospital room as you ushered a loved one into the hands of God? Recount for yourself how you have experienced the steadfast love and faithfulness of the Lord in your years of living. My experience in Florida, over a year ago now, when my husband underwent emergency
open heart surgery, is a time when I repeatedly broke out in song with thanksgiving for God’s love which enfolded us and for God’s faithfulness in supplying our every need through strangers we had just met. Memories are flooding my thoughts of times when I could not contain my praise of the God whom I worship. Yes, this day I declare with the psalmist, “I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever.”
Prayer
Steadfast loving God, I thank you that you are mindful of me. That you love me more than I can imagine. Keep me awake to your steadfast love and faithfulness all the days of my life. Amen.
